Screenwriters Group

The IFP/PHX Screenwriters Group strives to provide a creative, supportive and fun environment for local screenwriters to interact, learn and develop their craft. The first Monday of every month we meet to discuss writers' scripts, critique work and share information on networking connections. Our goal is to encourage the development of ideas and the completion of scripts that are ready to enter the marketplace.

We welcome anyone with interests or goals in the areas of screenwriting and film, and anyone else who's interested, to come to a meeting and see what we're all about. Join us and help our community grow.

MONTHLY MEETING
Come, meet, and support screenwriters through this monthly networking meeting. Gain information about industry contacts, tools of the trade, conferences, and screenplay competitions. Monthly review of a screenwriters' work. Held the first Monday of every month from 7-9 pm at the IFP/PHX offices: 1700 N 7th Avenue #250, Phoenix, AZ 85007.


Upcoming Meetings:
September 14
Due to the Labor Day holiday the meeting has been moved to the SECOND Monday of September. Feedback and awards will be presented from the Pitching contest kicked off on August 3rd.

October 5
Using October’s built in theme, we’ll be discussing how to scare.

November 2
In real life people are rarely archetypes and they shouldn't be in your film. Even the brash hero has or evil villian needs personality and definition. Learn how to make your characters come to life as real people that actors want to perform and audiences want to get behind....

December 7
Bring your questions, favorite books, favorite references, etc. This is the night to get your questions about writing for film answered.

WEEKLY TABLE READS
Table reads are every Wednesday night at Barnes & Noble in Tempe Marketplace: 2000 East Rio Salado Parkway #1032, Tempe, AZ 85281

A table read is a great opportunity to bring some pages of your work (no more than 10) to have it read aloud by your fellow members, who then discuss it with you. Having your script read out loud is a great opportunity to get a feel for the sound of your dialogue and the overall flow of your script.

Remember, no more than 10 pages, in 12 point Courier preferred. Please bring eight or more copies to share around.

Even if you don't have any pages, come by to participate! You will learn just by participating, being involved, and listening to other people's pages and critiques. And we always want to hear your views on other members' scripts.

Table reads run every Wednesday from 7-9pm.
