In my years of working in Visual Effects I have often been faced with the “Fix it in Post” challenges presented by many independent filmmakers. These days, people assume that, with the advent of the personal computer and After Effects, creating complex visual effects at the last minute is as easy and cheap as pushing a button or loading a plug-in. And after spending mind-bending hours trying to get After Effects to create “Lord of the Rings” effects on a Tuesday night budget, these filmmakers of…

Well, we are and we would like to hear from you.
Where do you think the film community of Arizona is headed? Why do you think there is not more work here?
What are the pros and cons of working here? And, most importantly, what can IFP do to help raise the bar of filmmaking in Arizona??

Sometimes it feels like Monty Hall is right up there asking me to make a deal, but I'm not going for what's behind the next curtain. Let's just open one and be done with it. Why does everyone want to play games?
Make the offer, let's stick with the offer, and let's move on to getting something done.
In the meantime we're trying to make deals to keep money coming in the door so, here we are.
Just finished the New Media project for Alex Arndt, "My Innocence Begins Today". Directed by Kevin Phip…

There was a time when everyone looked at the Director as the ‘Captain of the Ship’, the Leader to lead all. The Director had the answers, knew the colors, storyline, everything! Everything began and ended at the Director. The crew depended on the Director to keep things in check. That Directors film looked like that Directors film! Has the world changed, evolved to the point where the true name ‘Director’ has taken on a new and different shape?
It seems a shape not so ‘Authoritative’ but one wh…

When Dissertation Troubles Surrounded Me:
This is an appreciative letter to thank the people who provided pin-point and professional
dissertation help at the time when I was totally disappointed and had braced myself to meet the disaster regarding my PhD degree. It was the worst time of my life when I even thought of my dissertation disapproval.
I was busy working and handling my social life. You can say that I was hanging in bala…

The longest week ever has turned into the longest month ever, and it's still going. However, it looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel. The 6th Annual American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest is over, and an early, raw draft of The Brickhouse finished as a quarterfinalist. Considering how much crap I ended up fixing or taking out from that draft to the one that went to the Las Vegas festival competition, I'm quite pleased it made it into the top 6% like it did.
Vegas still hasn't announc…

So MSCP participated in the 24 hour challenge. Hopefully what we submitted in is good - I think it is. I feel that our end result was far better than our first short Core Values which was the 36 hr challenge. I feel as a group we have come a long way, despite none of us having any real full knowledge, school or training as film makers. Just was we read and the look and feel we want to present on film. I couldn't be prouder of the group I am with now.
Hope to see all of you at the screening on 2…

Hey, long-time listener, first-time blogger. Okay, that was cheesy, but I'm leaving it in anyway.
YES, this is the longest week ever. We just came off two straight three-day work weeks, so the five-day week is DRAGGING, and I'm waiting anxiously for Saturday on top of that. Here's why.
I have two scripts, a feature and a short script, submitted into the Las Vegas Film Festival screenplay competition, and I have high hopes for both (both make my wife cry, but don't tell her I told you ;-). The…

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I am making Watch Over Me, a web series about a young woman at the end of her rope, fed up with life and her new, surly and sarcastic guardian angel. With a few minutes and/or a few dollars, you could help us make this happen.
We are building a audience and raising $800 to cover the start-up costs of the location and some additional set dressing. Please click on the "take Action " link under image below. It's called a widget. Once clicked, you will be brought…
